New Gradall XL 4100 III Excavator Has Advantages Most Needed for Today.

NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH – Responding to contemporary economic pressures, Gradall Industries, Inc., has designed greater operational savings as well as features that hold down the purchase price for its new Gradall XL 4100 III excavator . Now more than ever, this new Gradall excavator’s versatility delivers greater value with its ability to perform many jobs that used to require many different machines.

The Gradall XL 4100 III can be driven to job sites and back to the equipment yard without the cost for a truck and lowboy trailer. A single, fuel-efficient Detroit Diesel Mercedes engine provides an extra edge in horsepower while operating both the over-the-highway carrier and the upper structure and boom.

The XL 4100 III carrier tail swing is 12 inches shorter than the XL 4100 II, the model it replaced in the Gradall lineup. The shorter tail swing allows the machine to be more productive than ever on roadside jobs, with less interference with traffic. The carrier is available in either 6 x 4, weighing approximately 47,500 lbs. (21,545 kg) and 6 x 6, weighing approximately 49,420 lbs. (22,416 kg).

The advanced hydraulics system has pressure-compensated, load-sensing valves with circuit reliefs on all circuits. This system delivers the right amount of hydraulic power to the boom, also increasing cost efficiency when performing a wide range of jobs from high productivity excavation to loading trucks or even spreading soil and grading. Rated bucket force is an impressive 24,900 lbs. (111 kN) while the telescoping boom crowd force is 24,500 lbs. (109 kN). Unlike conventional excavators, the telescoping boom forces are constant through the entire dig cycle.

The automatic hydraulic system allows operators to concentrate on the joystick controls, built into the large seating module armrests, to manage boom motions that telescope, tilt 220 degrees, swing from side to side or up and down. The low profile telescoping boom action allows the XL 4100 III to work where conventional knuckle booms cannot, under bridges and tree limbs or in tunnels.

The productive, versatile boom delivers a maximum reach of 30 feet, 3 inches (9.22 m) at grade; a dig depth of 20 feet, 3 inches (6.17 m); and a lift height of 22 feet, 6 inches (6.83 m).

Excellent swing speed and cycle times, combined with the power of high-pressure hydraulics, make the XL 4100 III more competitive than ever with conventional excavators. To achieve full versatility, a single operator can quickly change between an array of attachments including excavating, trenching, ditching, pavement removal and dredging buckets. Also available are a single-tooth ripper, grading blade, tree limb shear, grapple, and boom extensions including the Telestick. A live boom extension can give the XL 4100 III the ability to reach over obstacles and into ditches.

Like many of the component and service parts on the XL 4100 III, all of the attachments also are interchangeable with the other Gradall Series III machines. For equipment fleet owners and managers, that makes it both economical and efficient to inventory fewer service parts and attachments.

Mobility on the jobsite is highly efficient because the carrier can be repositioned from the upper structure cab using foot pedals and a speed selection switch on the control panel. The spacious upper structure cab has more standard comfort features and operating advantages including a switch that allows the operator to select either the Gradall, Deere or SAE joystick pattern – a feature that shortens the learning curve for some equipment operators.

Also designed for comfort as well as efficiency on highways and back roads, the carrier cab has extra sound-deadening material and an optional tilt steering wheel. The carrier has a 9-speed transmission and clutch with hydraulic actuation and double plate. Other standard features include hub piloted disc wheels, upper cab wiper and washer, rear tow hooks and an air ride seat in the carrier.
